The trading hall of the Palacio Provincial of the Diputación de Jaén hosted this Wednesday the III Provincial Dry Fruit Showcase, an event at which it was possible to taste almonds, pistachios, walnuts and caramelised almonds from several companies included in the Diputación's Degusta Jaén strategy.

A crop that is growing

According to the deputy for Agriculture, Livestock, Environment and Climate Change, Isabel Uceda, the production of almond and pistachio has increased considerably in the province. Uceda noted that these crops have gone from covering 59 hectares in 2012 to 1,000 hectares in 2026. The deputy placed this evolution within the Diputación's commitment to agricultural diversification, with pistachio and almond as alternative and complementary crops to the olive grove. Companies from the Degusta Jaén strategy, which brings together products from the province, took part in the showcase.

Annual subsidies

Uceda indicated that the Diputación will maintain the annual call for subsidies that the province's agricultural sector can apply for to help with the establishment of these products. The provincial official also recalled the weight of dry fruits in the gastronomy of Jaén. The showcase was held coinciding with the proximity of International Dry Fruit Day, which is commemorated on October 22, as noted by the deputy, who linked these products with the province's agricultural tradition, especially walnuts and almonds, to which pistachio has been added in recent years.
