The mental health of young people in the province was the focus of the second edition of the conference organized by the Diputación Provincial de Jaén and the Universidad de Jaén (UJA), within the framework of the Promo Bienestar University Chair. The meeting was held at the Palacio Provincial de Ferias y Congresos de Jaén (IFEJA) and brought together more than fifty people.

Unwanted loneliness and the digital environment

Among the topics addressed were unwanted loneliness, the digital environment among young people and the work carried out by local government in the field of youth. During the conference, the Estudio sobre soledad no deseada y salud mental 2026 was presented by the president of the Observatorio Estatal de la Soledad no Deseada (SoledadES), Matilde Fernández. The program also included the lecture «Salud mental y bienestar emocional en el trabajo con jóvenes desde lo local», by Antonio Lara, youth officer at the Ayuntamiento de Marmolejo. It closed with a talk on programs for young people with an educational impact on critical digital citizenship, given by Ana Cristina Araya, officer in the Employment and Entrepreneurship area of the Fundación Santa María La Real.

Collective responsibility

The deputy for Equality and Youth, María Dolores Ruiz, noted that the conference «has made it possible to put on the table a reality that is of concern, such as the mental health of the young people of our province». Ruiz added that this type of activity seeks «to stop talking about mental health as an individual problem, as a taboo subject» and to understand it «as a collective responsibility». The conference was attended by the Secretary of State for Youth and Children of the Government of Spain, Rubén Pérez; the deputy for Equality and Youth herself, María Dolores Ruiz, and the head of the university chair, UJA professor Luis Joaquín García.
