4th year ESO students from Hermanos Medina Rivilla, Sagrado Corazón and María Bellido take part in the II Cardiomaratón 'Tus manos pueden salvar vidas', organised by the Área de Gestión Sanitaria Norte de Jaén through the Unidad de Gestión Clínica de Bailén.
The II Cardiomaratón 'Tus manos pueden salvar vidas' is held this Wednesday, October 21, in Bailén, coinciding with International Cardiopulmonary Arrest Day. The activity is aimed at 4th year of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) students from the Hermanos Medina Rivilla, Sagrado Corazón and María Bellido schools.
What is taught
The aim is for students to learn how to act in the event of a cardiopulmonary arrest and to know the basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques. According to the Bailén City Council, the initiative seeks to raise awareness of the importance of knowing how to react, call for help and perform the basic manoeuvres, so that anyone can become the first link in the chain of survival.
Who organises it
The Cardiomaratón is organised by the Área de Gestión Sanitaria Norte de Jaén, through the Unidad de Gestión Clínica de Bailén, and has the collaboration of the Bailén City Council through the Concejalía de Salud, which has offered a healthy breakfast, and of the Ánfora, Arcilla and Sagrado Corazón parents' associations (AMPAs).
Defibrillators in public buildings
The mayor of Bailén, Luis Mariano Camacho, said during the activity that the City Council is making an investment effort to equip public buildings with defibrillators. "Having a defibrillator and being able to use it quickly can save lives," said Camacho, who was accompanied by the councillor for Education, María Teresa Risueño.
The mayor thanked the health professionals, the educational community and the collaborating organisations for their involvement, and encouraged them to continue promoting first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training actions.
