The University of Jaén has enrolled 3,507 new-entry students in bachelor's degrees for the 2026/2027 academic year, a figure it had not reached for more than a decade and which represents 335 more students than in the 2023/2024 academic year.

The University of Jaén (UJA) has closed new-entry enrolment in its bachelor's degrees with 3,507 students for the 2026/2027 academic year. The institution had not exceeded the threshold of 3,500 new admissions for more than a decade, according to the university.
Growth year after year
The figure represents an increase of 335 students compared with the 2023/2024 academic year, when 3,172 students enrolled, equivalent to 10.56% more in relative terms. The trend has been progressive: 3,240 students in 2024 and 3,400 in 2025, up to the current 3,507.
The university explains that this upturn occurs in a context of population loss in the province and a shrinking young population. According to the UJA, the growth is based on attracting students from the province itself, from other parts of Spain and from the international sphere.
Almost all places filled
After analysis by faculties and centres, only nine degree programmes have not filled all the places offered, the institution indicates. The UJA states that it has far exceeded its initial offer of just over 3,400 places.
The rector, Nicolás Ruiz Reyes, attributes the result to the entire range of courses and not only to the new degrees, whose impact in the early years is still limited. "We came from a very complicated situation of progressive loss of students," said Ruiz Reyes, who considers that returning to enrolment levels of years ago is a milestone to feel satisfied about in these three years of his mandate.
What it means for students
The 2026/2027 academic year begins with 3,507 new-entry students in bachelor's degrees and with practically all places filled. The university links higher enrolment to an increase in skilled human capital in the province and to its economic, social and cultural impact.
