New inclusive children's play area in Plaza de San Francisco
The Jaén City Council has begun installing a children's play area in Plaza de San Francisco, in the city centre. It will include one adapted element and the benches will be redistributed without reducing their number.
The Jaén City Council has started work to install a new children's play area in Plaza de San Francisco, right in the city centre. The project includes one of the adapted play elements, as explained by the councillor for Urban Maintenance, Javier Padorno, during a technical visit to the site.
What changes in the square
The installation involves a reorganisation of the square's street furniture. The same number of benches will be kept, and they will be redistributed in the areas surrounding the new playground. The aim, according to the councillor, is for families and, above all, older people to be able to keep using this green space in the centre.
Padorno has stated that the project "responds to a demand from the residents of the area, who had been calling for the addition of new children's facilities given the shortage of play elements in this space".
Within the maintenance contract
The work is included in the city's children's play equipment conservation and maintenance contract. That contract covers the usual maintenance, repair and improvement of existing facilities and also the addition of new elements at various points in Jaén.
The councillor has explained that this service is provided through an agreement signed again between the Jaén City Council and the Diputación Provincial de Jaén, and that it is carried out by the provincial company Resurja. According to Padorno, the agreement allows not only the conservation and repair of existing play equipment but also its renewal and improvement with new elements.
Background
The City Council had already renovated the previous week the children's play equipment in the Plaza de El Salvador, next to the church of El Salvador, in the Los Goya residential area, with an adapted installation. During that visit, the mayor, Julio Millán, and Padorno himself explained the technical criteria for the materials to mothers from the AMPA of Colegio Alfonso Sancho, and the possibility of extensions or complementary work was raised.
