A group of twelve people linked to the Jaén Penitentiary Center has walked the Camino del Norte. They were five inmates, two chaplains, two prison officers and three CaixaBank volunteers, who accompanied the Prison Pastoral in this 2026 edition.

From September 28 to October 4

The walk took place between September 28 and October 4. Earlier, on September 25, the group celebrated the "Sending of the Pilgrims" in the chapel of the penitentiary center, the act with which the pilgrimage begins. The week was organized with a morning prayer, which served to reflect during the walk, and an afternoon reflection. According to the volunteer Ana María Cano García, that dynamic made the twelve members feel equal: "there were no differences within the group, neither inmates, officers nor volunteers".

The goal, returning to society

Cano points out that the final purpose of these outings is for the inmates to "feel integrated into society again" and for the experience to serve them "as help and support to face their life again once they leave prison". The volunteer describes the treatment between the inmates and the chaplains Pepe and Carmen as sincere and mutual affection. The group is already preparing for the 2027 Camino.
