Possible origin in a candle
According to initial reports, the fire could have started when a candle fell onto a mattress and began to burn.
What the SPEIS is
The SPEIS is the municipal service responsible for prevention, firefighting and rescue at the Ayuntamiento de Jaén, the body that handles this type of emergency in the city.
Risk of smoke in a fire
People's exposure to a fire can cause very serious damage and even death, generally from smoke inhalation or from fainting due to poisoning and, afterwards, from serious burns, as explained by the encyclopedia Wikipedia. For a fire to start, three elements must coincide: fuel, oxygen and heat or activation energy, which is known as the fire triangle.
