The University of Jaén (UJA) is holding a new edition of UJA Flamenca from this week, a series of four events that runs until International Flamenco Day. All activities are free to attend, with advance ticket reservation through the University of Jaén's events platform.
The first event is this Thursday, November 5, at 20:30, in the Aula Magna of the UJA, with the danced lectures of Leonor Leal, a proposal that combines theoretical reflection and the body in movement.
On Thursday, November 12, also at 20:30 in the Aula Magna, the show «Mestizaje (Redescubriendo el mundo flamenco)», by Víctor and Ruvén, is performed. The following day, Friday, November 13, at the same time and place, the singer Abraham Lojo performs as part of the «Jóvenes Flamencos en Ruta» circuit, in collaboration with the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco and the AIE (Artistas Intérpretes o Ejecutantes).
The series closes on Monday, November 16, International Flamenco Day, at 20:00 in the Sala Pascual Rivas of the former Escuela de Magisterio de Jaén, with the illustrated lecture «El baile flamenco», by José Lucena and with Juan Moreno on guitar. This activity also serves as the opening framework of the 8th Festival Internacional Flamenco Ciudad de Jaén, which is held from November 19 to 22, 2026.
An agreement with the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco
This year's edition comes after the general protocol signed between the UJA and the Agencia Andaluza de Instituciones Culturales, through the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco. According to the UJA's Vice-Rector for Culture, Marta Torres, that agreement allows flamenco to be integrated into classrooms, research projects and the institution's cultural programming. Torres has stated that for the University, flamenco is not only a show, but also an object of study, research and conservation.
The series has the collaboration of the Asociación Cultural Flamenca Ciudad de Jaén and the Escuela del Tabanco.
To attend any of the four activities, you must reserve a ticket on the University of Jaén's events platform. Admission is free.
