The IV «Creando oportunidades para el Empleo» Fair of Cruz Roja Jaén has opened its doors at the Activa Jaén building of the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Jaén with 75 participating companies and more than 1,600 registered people. The event connects the province's business community with those looking for work.
More than a thousand job opportunities
According to the president of Cruz Roja in Jaén, Miguel Ángel Maldonado, the fair offers more than 1,150 real job opportunities. Maldonado thanked the companies and public institutions for their involvement and stated that «employment is a fundamental tool to get out of exclusion and have a new life project».
The event is part of the Reto Social Empresarial + PLUS project, in which the Diputación de Jaén collaborates and which seeks to improve employability and promote the social inclusion of people with the most difficulties in accessing the labour market.
Twenty-five years of employment programmes
The head of Cruz Roja in Jaén recalled that the organisation has been running employment programmes for more than 25 years and put the hiring rate achieved at between 60 and 70 percent, a figure he described as historic.
The president of the Diputación de Jaén, Juan Latorre, took part in the opening alongside the fourth vice-president and deputy for Igualdad, Políticas Sociales y Juventud, Francisca Medina, and the deputy for Empleo y Empresa, Luis Miguel Carmona. Latorre argued that «employment is key to combating inequality and also to keeping the population in the territory» and praised the work of Cruz Roja in helping those who need it most through training and support.
The unemployment figures cited by Latorre
The president of the Diputación referred to the recent data from the labour force survey, which he said place Jaén with the lowest number of unemployed people in the last 20 years and the highest number of employed people in its history. Even so, he maintained that «as long as there is one unemployed person, there will still be work to do».
