The Pastoral del Trabajo of the Diocese of Jaén conveyed to the territorial delegate for Employment, Enterprise and Self-Employment, Javier Carazo, its concern about the employment situation of young people, women, migrants, people with disabilities, families affected by residential exclusion and those suffering unemployment or precariousness. The meeting was held on October 16.

Groups highlighted

At the meeting, a voice was also given to forest firefighters, cleaning workers, domestic workers and, with special attention, to the workers of AEMSA Santana de Linares, according to the Pastoral del Trabajo. For his part, Carazo presented the active employment programmes that are running and that seek solutions to unemployment and precariousness.

What this Pastoral is

The Pastoral del Trabajo was formally born as a national reference and commitment document on November 18, 1994, when the Conferencia Episcopal Española approved the document La Pastoral Obrera de toda la Iglesia. Its objectives are to bring evangelisation to the workplace, to become incarnate in the realities, sufferings and hopes of the working world and to accompany those dedicated to this mission in companies and jobs.

Open dialogue

According to the Diocese, the delegate positively valued the work of this Pastoral and expressed his willingness to keep open the channels of dialogue and collaboration to continue working for decent employment. At the end of the meeting, he was given the book «La iglesia en el corazón del mundo», by Luis González-Carvajal Santabarbara. The Pastoral del Trabajo cites Pope León XIV and the bishop of Jaén, Sebastián Chico Martínez: «The poor are not a distraction for the Church, but the most beloved brothers and sisters».
