The Regional Minister for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Development and Public Administration, José Antonio Nieto, has visited the companies Evolutio and Sicnova in Linares. As he explained, the aim is for professionals trained at Andalusian universities to be able to develop their careers in the region and for companies to find the profiles they need to grow.

Three objectives of the Regional Ministry

Nieto detailed that his department is working on three lines. The first is to make the Andalusian Administration more efficient with a technological transformation that speeds up projects and the processing of citizens' rights. The second is to consolidate a digital ecosystem that allows talent to be realised in the eight provinces, connecting university knowledge with business solutions. The third is to transfer these capabilities to industry and services as a whole.

Linares as an example

The Regional Minister held up Linares as an example of attracting technology companies and qualified professionals, and he valued public-private collaboration and the municipal commitment to reviving the industrial estate and steering it towards new economic activities. The visits made it possible to learn about applications such as digital services, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, additive manufacturing and the three-dimensional digitalisation developed by Sicnova. Nieto also mentioned the possibilities of dual technology and of projects linked to European defence, and he defended the importance of having European companies capable of providing strategic technological solutions.

The challenge for SMEs

The Regional Minister pointed to the small size of much of the Andalusian business fabric, made up of self-employed workers and small and medium-sized enterprises, as a pending challenge, which makes investment in innovation and technology difficult. That is why he called for "finding formulas that favour business growth and allow the digital transformation to be extended to the economy as a whole". As for the way of working, Nieto championed direct contact with companies, entrepreneurs and local administrations: "Politics cannot be done from behind a desk," he stated.
