The Alcalá la Real Town Council hosted on Monday, October 19 the presentation of the proceeds from the II Memorial Manuel Ibáñez «Manolín», held on September 12. The 6,062 euros go in full to the ALEXAL association, which provides free care to people with addictions.
The proceeds from the II Memorial Manuel Ibáñez «Manolín» now have a destination. The Alcalá la Real Town Council hosted on Monday, October 19 the handover ceremony of the 6,062 euros raised in this second edition, an amount that goes entirely to the ALEXAL association for the care and prevention of addictions.
A charity match
The memorial was held last September 12 with a sports match between the veterans of the Unión Deportiva Almería and the Peña Madridista de Alcalá. More than 120 companies from the municipality took part in the organization, together with the Department of Sports and the family of Manuel Ibáñez.
What ALEXAL does
The association offers free care to its users and has the support of the Town Council to maintain its activity. After reopening after the summer, ALEXAL has added seven new people to its therapy sessions. Its president, Francisco Alcalá, has stated that the money «will come especially in handy for us to keep growing and be able to help all people with some kind of addiction», and has called for more visibility for the entity.
Continuity of the memorial
On behalf of the Peña Madridista, Francisco García explained that this second edition was organized «with the same enthusiasm as last year» and announced the intention to hold a third memorial. Mónica Hoces, Manuel Ibáñez's partner, thanked the Town Council, the collaborating companies and the Peña Madridista for the effort to carry this edition forward.
The mayor, Marino Aguilera, highlighted the work of ALEXAL in the municipality and congratulated the Peña Madridista for keeping the memory of Manuel Ibáñez alive with an action that, he indicated, benefits Alcalá society.
