The Martos City Council extends the cemetery's opening hours from this Tuesday, October 20, until Sunday, November 1, both included, with uninterrupted opening from 9.00 to 19.00 hours. Minor repairs and the placing of headstones may only be done until Monday, October 26.
The Martos cemetery changes its hours on the occasion of the All Saints' and All Souls' Day holiday. From this Tuesday, October 20, until Sunday, November 1, both included, the cemetery will remain open without interruption from 9.00 to 19.00 hours, according to the Martos City Council.
Last day for works and headstones
Those who need to make minor repairs to the graves or place headstones have until Monday, October 26. The City Council sets that deadline so that cemetery staff can finish the ornamentation and cleaning work before the days of greatest visitor numbers.
More hours for visits
The measure affects all residents who go to the cemetery at this time of year, when the highest number of visits of the year is concentrated on the occasion of the All Saints' and All Souls' Day holiday. The extended hours, with no midday break, allow people to enter and leave the grounds throughout the whole day, from first thing in the morning until seven in the evening.
A cemetery, also called a camposanto, is the place where mortal remains are deposited, whether in niches, graves or columbaria, according to the usual definition of the term.
What to do
No appointment or registration is needed to visit the cemetery: it is enough to go within the special hours. For minor repairs and the placing of headstones, the deadline is Monday, October 26. The extended hours remain in place until Sunday, November 1, both days included.
